Move over, CamiCakes!  Hellooooo, Sweet Dee’s Bakeshop.  Don’t get me wrong I love Camicakes; however, Sweet Dee’s really hit the spot for me.  The most exciting thing about Sweet Dee’s is that it is not to far from my home.  Located in downtown Tucker, it is the chose of the locals looking to satisfy a sweet tooth.  Parking was not an issue as there are several places to park.  I went on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm and I was able to park right in front of the store.  As soon as I opened the door, the smell of freshly baked goods hit my nose and settled nicely there.  The decor of the bakeshop is very dainty and inviting.  The perfect place to go and have a cup of coffee and cupcake when Calgon just isn’t enough.

I went with the intention on getting one cupcake but, when I saw my choices I had to get two.  I purchased the Chocolate Salted Caramel and the Red Velvet cupcakes.  The cupcakes were $2.75 a piece.  Most cupcakes are in the $2.50 to $3.50 range so, the price was just right.  Sweet Dee’s Bakeshop packages their desserts in a signature chocolate-colored box with the Sweet Dee’s logo sticker on the front.  As you can see from the pic below, the cupcakes have adequate spacing between them.  There’s nothing worse than driving home and opening a cupcake box only to find the cupcakes on top of each other and icing smeared everywhere.

Now to the taste – actual cake/breading is what separated Sweet Dee’s from the rest.  The cupcakes did not taste artificial.  The ingredients had to be from scratch.  The cakes were very fresh.  The Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcakes had a nice surprise of caramel filling.  The icing was very creamy and not so sweet that it overpowered the rest of the cupcake.  The Red Velvet cupcake was simplistic in delivery but, it over delivered when it came to my palate. After one bite, I urged myself to save the rest for a midnight snack.  I couldn’t do it….after a mile down the road the cupcake was gone!  If I had to make a complaint about anything, it would be the icing.  While the taste and texture are great, I could have done without the amount of icing.  However, I do not think that this is a practice of Sweet Dee’s alone….other cupcake hotspots are right in line with the trend as well.
